Question re married couple both on social welfare-wife possibly starting work.

    Just a quick question,my dads on social welfare claiming for both himself and may mam a part time job has come up that my mam will take its 10-15hrs per week ,how much money does my dad stand to loose when she takes up the job?

    It depends on how much your mother earns for those hours.

    She'll get €8 an hour so €80-€120 depending on how many hours she does.

    If she does 3x5hr days at 8 euro an hour = 40 euro a day.

    She is allowed 20 euro a day without affecting claim. and then will be deducted 60% of the balance.
    Your mother will be deducted 12 euro for every day worked divided by 2 (because your father is unemployed also).

    So, she will be deducted 6 euro for everyday worked.
    If she does more than 3 days, she will lose all of her welfare.;)

    She isn't claiming - her husband is.
    So she can work as many days as she wants. But her income will be means tested against her husbands claim, and his rate of payment will be reduced accordingly.
