6thgen nano, how long does charge last?

this is my first ipod, so forgive all ignorance. i fully charged it but it goes out of charge after 3 or so hours of radio playback, is this standard? or is it a battery issue? incidently it is now not taking charge or turning on at all and its only been used 5 or 6 times (aprox 15 hours)
