Do we have crickets in Ireland ?

I'd swear I hear the occasional cricket noise from behind the couch. Sounds just like the ones in the US. doesn't say much thou - just they occasional chirp.

Could it be a cricket ?

more likely your TV sound trying to be 'surround' and bounding chirps off the wall. Those background noises like crickets, doorbells etc are the easiest to make sound like they are behind you..

Is the noise coinciding with you sitting down or getting up from the sofa?
    Are you fat?

You can also find it (like most deviant pasttimes) in the Phoenix Park.
