UPC Modem/Router help

    Hi there,

I've recently had UPC 15MB Fibre Power broadband installed (which I see is no longer offered on their website), and as mentioned many times before on older threads, their modem/router combo (Cisco EPC2425) is a big pile of poop :).

Being a relative newbie, could anyone advise if it's possible to set up my own modem/router, any recommendations on what I should purchase to do so, and how I would go about setting it up?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. If anyone's gone through this themselves, it'd be great to find out what the best option is.

    Many thanks,
    Conor

Your own modem, no. Your own router, yes. You can either just connect a router straight to the Cisco, or ideally but the Cisco in bridge mode to make it transparent. This will stop the phone service working though.

Thanks all! I'm gonna invest in a decent router and throw the Cisco out the window. Terrible, terrible piece of equipment ;)

You can't get rid of the Cisco, it's your modem.
