Sound will not go through vga only picture will you will need to see if there is a sound input on your tv and plug in a cable like this in to your headpnone jack on your laptop http://cgi.ebay.ie/1-5M-3-5MM-AUX-JACK-AUDIO-CABLE-3-4G-MP3-IPOD-/270642483353?pt=UK_Home_Garden_CD_DVDStorage_SM&hash=item3f038c9099

Yes the VGA is picture only, i have my one setup also, i ran 2 cat 5 cables behind the skirting over to the tv with VGA sockets on wall at voth ends and phono audio sockets. One cable for the video, the other for sound. You should see a jack socket beside the VGA socket on the tv for a 3.5mm stereo jack plug like the link in thenightrider`s post.

Its a great thing to do to get the pc onto the tv, i use it all the time, its a spare pc i was never going to use i hooked up to it. Great for movies and youtube etc.

Does the laptop have a hdmi port? If so simply connect a hdmi lead between it and the tv(a cheap one works fine) if not simply follow the steps previous posters gave.

your tv manual should be able to tell you what audio input is active when you use the vga picture input. Then just use a stero-mini jack lead from the headphone socket to what ever input is applicable on your TV (Usually a phono connection i.e the red and white type or another stereo minijack input) both types of leads should be available from Maplins or any good sound place

You might not have a headphone (3.5in) jack on your TV. If you dont you will need a 3.5in jack to phono lead like this one:

    http://cgi.ebay.ie/3-5mm-Stereo-Jack-2-RCA-Phono-Cable-Aux-Lead-iPod-/400186891359?pt=UK_Cars_Parts_Vehicles_Terminals_Cabling_ET&hash=item5d2cff5c5f

You just plug the lead in to the headphone socket of the laptop and the red and white leads into the back/side of the TV.

I actually connected the audio into the surround sound DVD player, then put it into AV in mode. Good powerful sound from that setup.
