Is this trip even possible?

Okay so I think I mentioned on here before that my girlfriend and I are planning on doing an 8 week backpacking trip this summer, but unfortunately we can't decide on where we are going to spend these 8 weeks, there is the obvious choices of Southeast Asia and South America but I wanted to investigate into some other interesting routes to take.

Now I was sitting in work and I had a map of the world open. Looking at the map I saw an interesting route that we could take, I hope people on here can help me even if they haven't done this exact route I am sure they would still know if this trip is possible?

    Okay here we go:

Flight from Shannon to Fort Lauderdale, FL - spend a few days in Fort Lauderdale and Miami - flight from Miami to Cancun, Mexico - Is it possible to visit Cuba from Cancun? Boat, ferry, etc? - Cancun to Acapulco (attractions in between) - Acapulco to Guatemala - Guatemala to El Salvador - El Salvador - Honduras - Honduras to Costa Rica - Costa Rica to Panama - flight from Panama city to Shannon

Is this trip even possible??

I love these 'is it possible' threads. :)

Yes, that trip is very possible. Getting from Mexico to Guatemala may be a bitch of a bus ride (due to distance) but after that there isn't much of a distance between anywhere. You're skipping Nicaragua in there. It's a nice spot, I spent a few months there. I'd recommend the lava boarding down the volcano in Leon and the lovely city/town of Granada.

The other issue is finding a flight that will let you in one end and out the other! that might be costly, and it may be cheaper to book a return ticket, and then a one way back to Mexico/Florida later. I don't know about Cuba.

As for your other choices; South America is amazing, cannot be said enough. The distances are further though so few nights will be spent on buses. It's more adventure place. Central America is more hang out at a beach place, scuba diving etc.
Then SEA would be quite similar to Central America in terms of things to do - beaches, some mountain fun etc.

My advice would be to read people's blogs and see which photos you like the most.

Thanks! I do like the idea of this trip, you see my girlfriend has never been to the US and I was looking at this route because I would be able to give her a taste of american beach life in miami before we hit the central american route from mexico. Thanks for the advice I'll keep this route stored away in my brain for the time being :D
