Availability of UPC digital+ service in areas with digital tv

    Hi,

I'm looking at signing up to UPC's Digital+ TV service. However the address checker on their website says that while their digital tv service is available to me, the digital+ service isn't.

How is this possible? Surely the only difference between the two services is that the digital+ box has a second tuner and a hard drive for recording? I'm living in an apartment block built around 2003 so I don't think it's an issue with the age of the property, but then again I'm not sure!

The town I'm in has a population of around 12,000. Is it the case that a town of this size would be likely served by an MMDS service rather than an actual cable? If that was the case, would it mean that I'd be unable to get any UPC service except the basic tv packages?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Reason why digital+ is not around is because the ex-chorus MMDS areas used a different technology to the cabled and NTL MMDS areas. UPC saved on costs by not providing a digital+ box for those on ex-chorus MMDS.

There are towns with a smaller population that have proper cabled networks, like Shannon for example. But then again, the two largest towns in Rep. of Ireland have no cable networks and have to rely on ex-Chorus MMDS. Most cable networks exist away from the border as historically NI overspill coverage could cover much of those towns and any black spots would be covered with very small community CATV schemes. Usually only for a street or housing estate.

UPC have what towns have broadband coverage on their website. Though in some towns, UPC has a mix of MMDS and cable in use. Their coverage thing is probably the best tool to use.
