    They are "blued" not painted.

You can get gun blue DIY kits.
Never used one, but remove rust with care and reoil before it gets worse

Almost all good RFD's keep some on the shelves

John Greene does it but I`d wait till the season is done before you see him as it could take a while...

I was looking at an old shotgun lately that was blued DIY and it was a lovely job. I commented to the owner that a previous DIY job I had seen was harmless, very streaky and just a poor job.
So it can be done nicely DIY is the point. I'd like to make sure though that the rust is just surface and not ingrained.

Is Pat Sludds the man in Wexford. If it is I think he only does stocks but I may stand to be corrected.
I have said it before on here that Gerry Gearon is the only fellow that I would go to for any work like that. I got a quote from him for re-blueing barrels for a side by side. It was about 80 euro or so which I think is fairly reasonable. He is a sound man and he is fast and efficient as well. He is located in Clonmel and I can pm you his details if your interested.
