How do I share contacts from iPhone to iPad?

I tried backing up my iPhone contacts in iTunes, then synching the iPad. I set both of them to sync contacts with the mac. I think I must be missing something rather obvious. Any ideas?

for some reason the contacts on your iphone will not sync on your ipad. it happened to me. backed up my iphone then tried to sync with ipad and the only thing that would sync was the notes. there is a way to put them manually but takes load of time to do it.

You could sign up for a MobileMe free trial and sync the contacts from iPhone to MobileMe, then from MobileMe to iPad.

Are your contacts in address book on the Mac?
if so, in iTunes, tick the sync option for contacts on the iPhone, then when it is complete, attach iPad and tick the sync contacts on that.

That's the one, I thought I had the box ticked but obviously not.

    Cheers for the replies
