    Hi There

I have a potterton system boiler. I bled a rad and now have no pressure, can anyone tell me where I attach the filling loop hose

As, the two pipes under the boiler with the plastic valves on them that have been capped are different sizes - is this unusual ?

There is a third capped pipe connected also but this doesnot have a plastic valve - which two do i connect to ?

Don't go near any of them connections ,one of them is natural gas.
    Try your hot press/Cylinder area.

Your bolier/rads should filll automatically from a header tank usually in your attic. Check that the tank has sufficient water in. Sometimes the float sticks from lack of use and the tank goes empty over time...Normally there are two attic tanks. One for domestic water and one for teh heating system . The heating tank is the smaller one. Move the float around a bit ( jiggle it about ) and the water should flow. It should be checked regularly particularly during the usage months and even pre particularly during frosty weather when ice can block the valves

Thanks - however I found the following youtube video which matches my system apart from one thing : the hose will not fit onto the second capped pipe (the furthest one in the pic)

Here is a better image :

If you go to your hot press upstairs or check the mains pipe in the attic you should find a feed for the boiler. It will have either a filling loop(braided hose) or a black valve. this is where the boiler is repressurised from.

Be very careful though you dont just blast open the valve and fill the system. The boiler needs to be switched on and someone needs to shout to you to close it when it reaches 1 bar.

No...I cant seem to find any thing that looks like the filling loop...

Just to clarify for me.... Could the above video not be relevant in this situation as the point where the system can be repressurised ?

Ok - the plumber was here -

He said there is no filling loop- that the boiler is gravity fed - he will fit one tomorrow - nothing that he can do tonight, so another night of freezing my knackers off.

Seems to me there must be a way of getting water in - or how was it filled when installed ?

    Any ideas anyone ?

You have answerred the question. The boiler was gravity fed... That means filling from the attic tank. Prob with a gate valve but i dont think this is correct. I thought these boilers required a min of one bar.

Some plumbers use to use a hose pipe though a rad... Works the same...

If he is fitting a filling loop it sounds like he is going to pressurise it...
