    Hi everyone,

Just got a 16gb SD card in the post and want to move everything from my 4gb card so that it works in my Desire, including the apps that are stored on it. Is it as easy as just copying the root of the old memory card to the new one? or is it more complicated, as in, will i have to re download every app? Thanks

If you don't have an ext3 partition for a2sd, it should be a simple copy and paste from one to the other...

Do you have app2sd from the market place or are you rooted using a ROM with A2SD+ with EXT3 partition on your SD card?

If the first, the just copy everything from one SD card to the new one.

as above it should be a simple copy and paste of files (ensure you get the hidden files also!)

one speedbump I hit when doing this was that the original card that came with mine was fat16 and the new card was fat32 and obviously the structure it stores files in is different as my phone detected the card and when I explored the card but none of the apps worked that had been saved. through a few days of fiddling I narrowed it down to this and moved all apps back to phone memory & then switched cards and moved them back.

This process took some time as I had to do a few at a time!:(

I have app2ds from the marketplace. Thanks for the replies guys, I just did a straight copy and everything seems to work ok. On a side note, if I root will i be able to copy more apps to the sd and free up some room on the phone memory? I've been contemplating rooting for a while, and this would be one of the main benefits

I'm not sure on the differences between a2sd+ and apps2sd, i assume you can move more with a2sd+, open to correction though. If you root you be able to get access to a whole host of custom roms, and some very handy apps like titanium backup, adfree etc...
