Flickering door open light on 01 Corolla

    hey,

Recently I've noticed that the 'door open' warning light on the dash of my Corolla has been flickering on and off generally when I encounter some bumpy terrain. The warning light itself aint that annoying but its the fact that the door is linked to the inside light of my car. Naturally I've just knocked this light off in recent times but would like to get to the bottom of the problem. I did mention it to a mechanic on a recent service but to be honest I'm not sure if he even looked at it because the garage was bedlam that day.

I've no clue whatsoever about cars
but can I assume that it's some sort of a loose wire? It's a 3 door so is it most likely to be linked to one of the doors or the boot? Is this a Corolla specific issue or just one of these wear and tear issues you get on 10 year olds? Any feedback greatly appreciated.

Most likely one of the door switches that is faulty or damaged.

Are any of the doors or boot not fully closed or need adjusting to close them flush?

not by the looks of things. Doors and boot are in good working order.

Should this be something a mechanic can fix easily? Have an upcoming NCT as well. Don't think this is something they test anyway. Anyway it only seems to come about when I cross speed bumps or rough roads

As the poster above said more than likely its a door switch, might just need to be adjusted slightly.

Not sure of the set up on the Corrolla but on other cars sometimes swapping them from one side to the other works too, done this on an E36 where the switch was built into the door receiver. The switch was some times making contact when the door was shut, due to wear on the receiver. Swapping one side for the other worked perfectly.

check the bolts holding the eye for the door lock, give it a shake if its loose it can cause the door to shake on rough terrain and flicker the light on/off too. this happened on a 03 toyota i had once

If that doesn't work you can try driving over some speed bumps to trigger issue.
Then take some duct tape and tape the boot switch down and test again.
Remove boot tape and instead tape each of the doors and try again.
