Witchcraft legalised, taxed in Romania

BUCHAREST, Romania — Romania has changed its labor laws to officially recognize witchcraft as a profession, prompting one self-described witch to threaten retaliation.
The move, which went into effect Saturday, is part of the government's drive to crack down on widespread tax evasion in a country that is in recession.
In addition to witches, astrologists, embalmers, valets and driving instructors are now considered by labor law to be working real jobs, making it harder for them to avoid income tax.
For months the measure had been debated, protested by witches and mocked by the media.
On Saturday, a witch called Bratara told Realitate.net, the website of a top TV station, that she plans to cast a spell using black pepper and yeast to create discord in the government.

Damn that terrorist Bratara, she was the one who trained the IRA in use of black pepper and yeast!

The best things about this story is now their religion is considered a job and can be taxed, but also that its included with those other shams driving instructors :D

Witchcraft isn't a profession. It's a meaning or importance really ugly women attribute to themselves.

This is a tax on ugly unskilled women. Fair play to the Romanians. Ya have to give credit where credit is due.

Good. Is say a 15cent tax on each prayer that will go to your local TD or councillor who'll be mopping his brow in relief that you didnt ask him for help

€2.50 per prayer. Buy 3 prayers and get the 4th free.

Confessions will be like a payphone, as you're in the middle of confessing your vile sins the box beside you starts beeping to insert another 50c before the shutter between you and the automated plastic priest closes.

Hmmm.............I'm in the wrong the game........

 Now I think this is just mean. Let's be honest "witches" tend to be sad, ugly, lonely, delusional hippy/goth women and they're not exactly racking in the cash from their "spells". I just think it's mean to be honest.

Presumably they'll have a minimum income allowed before hitting income tax. So if they aren't raking in the cash, no problems.

Search "Spell" on ebay, here you can pay for someone to cast a spell for you. Now picking one particularly galling example, a Psychic Pregnancy Conception Reading & Fertility Spell which costs (as "buy it now") £9.99. Now this costs the "witch" 40p insertion fee and 9.9% of the fee paid (i.e. ~£1) which is £1.40 which is more than a 700% profit margin. There is no other cost involved as it is bollocksology and this person is preying on the weak and stupid.

There are cheaper options where there isn't even any actual outcome, at least the charlatan above sends you something but it is all pure profit besides the ebay fees.

How do you know they're Romanians. and not Polish, Czech, Slovakian, Hungarian etc etc?

Doesn't Ireland forbid anyone except priests from selling Mass cards? And allow churches to operate tax-free, even for their non-charitable actions?

    Common confusion:

Roma/Romani are the 'Gypsies' that are spread across most of europe (including eastern). They are actually originally ethnically Indian in origin.

Romanians are the people that come from Romania, and are unrelated to the Romani.

However, cause of the similarities in names, most people tend to think of gypsies as Romanian, when they aren't, originally, even eastern european at all.

Not really, when most of the Roma in Ireland tend to originate from Romania, they begin to become interchangeable for stereotyping purposes.

Priests pay income tax. Better off comparing it to our 'artist exemptions' loophole.

I know it's a common confusion, but some people never get the significance and repeat the same old face-palming crap each time it comes up.
