    Hi all,

I began helping a friend with the Irish side of his family tree last year and it looks like we've come to the end as regards the records that are available online. What I'm hoping is that you could take a quick look at what we've done and what is missing and let me know if there's something I missed.

William Joseph McAlister (born 1858) married Rose Anne Cooke (born 1862) at Rathfarnham, Dublin 1882

I have Rose Anne's birth cert but have not found William Joseph's cert. I have located their marriage cert.

Their marriage cert lists William Joeseph's dad to be "Joseph Mcalister" but I have no further info on him.
The marriage cert also lists Rose Anne's dad to be Isaac Cooke, who married Jane Canning.
Isaac was born in Co. WestMeath as was his father (Abraham Cooke b. 1882 d. 1856)

The 1901 census lists William J as a "greengrocer", living at 314 Rathgar Avenue, Rathmines

In 1911 Rose Anne is widowed and living with her daughter.

William Joseph died 1909 and Rose Anne died in 1914 (I have not located where they may have been buried though Mount Jerome which was almost next door to them it perhaps where I should look).

So regarding this bunch of people is there any way of finding out more about William Joseph Mcalister who was a greengrocer in 1901 or anything at all about his dad for which I only have his name, Joseph ?

I'm ok with the Cooke side as I have Rose Anne, her father Issac and her g-father Abraham who is listed in Griffiths valuations.

You've got some good work done there. Question: I presume it's a baptismal record for Rose Anne, since she was born before the start of civil registration?

Have you just looked online or have you hit the NLI to check Rathfarnham parish registers?

I see William is listed as a Presbyterian born in Co. Meath. I wouldn't expect there to be a lot of Presbyterian churches in Meath - their records are still with the Presbyterian church but you could check what churches they have in Meath now online and contact the various parishes.

IIRC the marriage was in Christ Church Rathgar, which is Presbyterian. The civil parish for the area is Rathfarnham.

    Yes, baptismal, from Irishroots.

Everything online for the moment. I don't often get a chance to get back to Ireland.

    Yes, exactly.

Joseph Mcalister is listed as a "coachman" in his sons marriage cert.

Would there be a directory of professions from ~1880 that would include coachmen ?

directories like Thom's, Slater's etc include people with certain trades and professions, along with business owners and various gentry, clergy and officials.

Coachmen, labourers and small farmers etc dont get a look in..unfortunately
