Hey, so i recently baught a car (fiat punto 00) and i was told it was in grand nick apart from some bearings need doing. Took it to a mechanic after purchase (i know silly, but i bought it through family) and i was told to just get rid of it because the work that has to be done to it would cost more than the car is worth. The mechanic gave me the below list. I have absolutely zero knowledge with cars so looking for some advice. Would this cost me a fortune to get remedied?

    cheers.

    Rear Wiper
    Front wiper spindle unit
    D/S/F tyre
    P/S/F shock leaking
Lower wishbone rear brushes both sides
Outer anti rollbar bushes both sides
Two rust holes in the floor in front of rear wheels
    rocker cover gasket
    clutch release bearing noisey
    front brake discs
    timing belt??

Without going into detail it would cost more than the car.

    Thanks bro...

Looks like i'll have to try recoup some of my money back by selling it for parts so.....

Anybody got any idea what i can realistically ask for?

You would have had to get the car for next to nothing or it would want to be a seriously clean high spec example to justify the expense of completing that list in one sitting. What did you pay for it?

The good news is that you could probably long-finger most of the list assuming you have a respectable amount of NCT. The list is mainly small, cheap repairs. In reality, the noisey release bearing is the only potential expensive jobs and even that might be a carry-on-regardless situation.

Unfortunetly i didnt get the car for 'next to nothing'. Cost me €700. Oh well, what can you do. I got it to encourage me to get my driving licence and get out learning, which it has done, so it aint a complete waste.

Timing belt would be expensive as well.

My advice would be, that you would fix the car your self,

you dont have much to loose anyway, I cannot see that you would get much more than 100-200e of the car, and I think I am being optimistic here,

And you would have now opportunity to learn how to fix cars.

So you reckon that will hamper peoples interest in the car?
