    Atlanta?

I'd have thought it's ATL alright. Flew in there 3 years ago and it was DL as far as the eye could see. EWR is similar except it's all CO/UA aircraft.

yea thats Hartsfield-Jackson,Atlanta. Its Delta's Hub. Busiest airport in the US normally. Huge airport with a shuttle train going between the different terminals. Very easy to get lost in the place but lots to do there!

Heres an aerial shot of the same airport:

ATL is a great airport but a bit intimidating the first time through. Fully automated train system between terminals (no human drivers).

Good sign posts, nice wide concourses, loads of space and the restaurants aren't too bad.

ATL may look impressive but has the worst possible setup for arriving international passengers. After claiming your bags in the international concourse you have to go airside again just to leave the airport. That means handing your bags back after customs, clearing security, taking the airside train to the terminal, amd then waiting for your bags a second time. It can easily take over an hour to all that. Bring on T2 in Dublin... flying into ATL as a domestic flight will skip all that nonsense.

Just noticed that to the right of centre of the picture, there's an aircraft that's not Delta.

So, following on from the airline spotting trivia in Strange picture in The Examiner yesterday, who is it?

Are you 100% certain that it is not a Delta aircraft?
Or just presuming because of what you can see in the pic?

I would have guessed that it is infact a Delta aircraft pre paint job.

Thought initially it might have been but the tail is blue rather than navy as the others.

The place is huge the staff park their cars in the carpark and get the company bus to drop them off at the hub, Normally about 15,000 people work there the crew buses are the same as the yellow buses that you see school kids going to school in only for there painted in the company colours;).

That's Delta's previous tail design. It was very short lived. Called 'Flowing Fabric'.

Do you mean arriving passengers that are actually leaving the airport? Atlanta as a destination?

I recently passed through Atlanta and I collected my bags, walked about 100 meters and dropped my bags and the bag drop.

I of course flew Delta, hence Atlanta but since my destination was Pensacola, I was heading in the right direction.

Plus I got to hang out at the Sweetwater bar and drink quality US craft brewed beer.

Brilliant airport from the 2 experiences (each way) I have had.

Fourth tailfin from the right, behind the MD90 facing us, is solid blue with no apparent design on it.

    NTM

I believe it was undergoing a tail painting while the pic was being taken ;)

Why not as a destination? It's a major business hub. 4.5M people in the greater Atlanta area.

Finding the Sweetwater bar was a win on your part. There are lots of great concessions in the airport, but you found the best one.

I tend to agree with others' experiences about arriving as an international passenger. It has been a pretty sh1te experience. However, recent arrivals have reported that things have improved hugely. Very short/no waits for incoming baggage. I would speculate that this is a result of the recent baggage handling system overhaul.

ATL airport's close-to-ideal layout is about to change. The new international terminal is not going to be a continuation of the extended-H design that the current layout is based on.

Oh no reason, and in fact I probably will get to Atlanta itself some time and visit the Sweetwater brewery itself and see what other beery delights I can find.
I just imagine that for most people, they pass through Atlanta and never see it.

    Anyone remember that Futurama episode?

I believe quite a few travelers connect here on the way to heaven.

Sweetwater brewery is quite wonderful. Yet another example of just how good American beer is. Also important not to forget the other local brew: Terrapin.
