Hello all just a quick question. My parents are currently using 2 standard older sky receivers & paying the usual monthly fee. Thing is they recently have asked me if its possible to get them replaced with newer sky boxes with the record ability. Is there an upgrade fee? or will it be free of charge?
I think the record facility is pretty much standard now isn't it?

Sky+ capabilities are free but I cant see Sky handing you 2 Sky+ HD boxes for free. You mention that they have 2 boxes so I presume one is multi-room and was probably given to you free. I reckon Sky will charge you for both boxes and its €200 per box but call to verify that. Even new customers must pay the €200 for a second Sky+ HD box on multi-room. If they take the HD pack on one of the boxes then they will get that box for free if you can call it that because you will then be stuck with the €15 per month charge.

Right thanks. Both boxes are in their house. Im living in a house with sky+ & i was thinking since its standard these days they might get a free upgrade but obviously im wrong.

It just seems like Sky's longterm customers are getting denied what new customers are getting as standard?

Just ring up and ask for the upgrade, see what they say. I take it you just want sky+ boxes, not sky+ HD.

If they give you any hassle with prices tell them you're thinking of switching to UPC because they're cheaper, offer a free box etc.

If that fails, cancel the sky account. If it's in your dad's name, wait for the cancellation to go through then get your mam to ring up as a new customer.

Ring them up, tell them you want to cancel your subscription and when they ask why say that you are getting free boxes of UPC that have the abililty to record because your out all day and miss all the programmes you want to watch, they will offer you on free of charge..

Sky no longer no longer provide sky+ boxes.

Only sky+ hd boxes and they are usually €200 each.
