    Hi folks!

I'm new to the site and can see that there is a vast amount of valuable advice here. I'm starting a new build this year and foundations have been in for the last few months. Didn't begin the next stage due to bad weather. I'm wondering if the temperature should be at a certain level before continuing with the build? Should I wait until Spring to begin blockwork? Any advice greatly appreciated.

...no need to wait til spring if you use a dry build, e.g. a timber based system.

You want 3 degrees and rising before you pour concrete, and 5 degrees and rising before you lay blocks. Note that these temperatures are ambient shaded temperatures. So I'd wait another few weeks to be sure! Personally I wouldnt go for timber frame in this country - just my opinion as a structural engineer, I know many will disagree!

He has the founds in so he could go timber frame. We work on Timber frame and find them very solid. Most are sheeted with OSB for racking strength and counter battened for more racking strength. If a good build, up Timeframes (in my opinion) are better and warmer than blocks. Although I did come across a building and the entire build up from the outside in was .

    Plaster.
    Panelvent
7 by 2 studs filled with expandable foam
    Plaster.

We did NOT plaster it I hastily add. It is cheap build ups like this that give timber Frame a bad name.

Thanks for the advice guys! Have decided to go with concrete blocks so will wait a few more weeks before starting. Although with 10 degrees here in Donegal its almost tropical compared to a few weeks ago!:)
