    Hi there,

    Did my PGDE last year and was v. lucky to get a job! I'm teaching English mostly, to all years.

    I am currently teaching To Kill a Mockingbird to second years. Its quite long, so I am wondering, how long should I be spending on it? I only finished the first 11 chapters just before Christmas, having been a good 4 weeks at that I think. There are 30 odd chapters in it!!! So, how do I teach it, to ensure its read through, or do I spend another few months on it!????

    Thanks
    Edja:eek::o:D

    Students at h level jc should be able to read the majority of the text itself so you should read the central events in school and do one or other of the following (or both): give Reading as a h/w exercise followed by a quick test at the end of the week or get them to keep a response journal where they summarise/ do light analysis of what they've read.
