Louisburgh Co Mayo Best Aerial For Saorview

    Hi

Im based near Louisburgh and have not as yet bothered with any Irish channels as I was using a quad LNB and Triax 5x16 multiswitch to get all of the free to air channels to each room in the house.

The multiswitch does have a terrestrial input and Im wondering what would be the best aerial type to use to get saorview. The multiswitch is located in the dormer and Im hoping that I can have the aerial located inside next to it.

Each room has a quad wallplate where the signal is undiplexed (if thats the term) and I plan to plug in the Technika freeview HD box for test purposes.

    Thanks in advance

Your choices are Castlebar (now) Achilll (soon) or a very long shot to Truskmore all with a UHF aerial. What terrestrials can you see with your aerial if you plug it in the aerial input on the multiswitch..I mean on analogue of course. If tv3 is missing it ain't Truskmore.

What make and model multiswitch is it and does it allow variable gain ??

UHF analogue channels for Achill (RTE1/2/TG4) are 40/43/50, group B, vertical polarisation. As Sponge Bob says no Saorview yet from Achill.

Analogue channels for Castlebar are 29/33/23, Group A, horizontal polarisation. Saorview from Castlebar is on ch 22.

Check neighbours aerials to see where they are pointing to.

    Hi Spongebob

The multiswitch is a Triax TMPR 5x16. Im not sure if there is variable gain on the Aerial input.

    Hi Mayo Exile.

Im thinking of going for a Blake XB10 aerial which is OK for loft (dormer) but considered a good aerial (from my limited research) and will point at Castlebar and hope for the best :)

    Thanks

You will most likely need an outside aerial. You are over 30 mls from the Castlebar mast and if Croagh Patrick is in your line to Glenisland, then you'll defo need an outdoor aerial.

Should be ok. Dont think Croagh Patrick will block Glenisland from Louisburgh. Its east of the town while Glenisland is northeast. Not sure about the hills near Old Head beach. They may or may not cause a problem. I'd go with the outside aerial at that distance though anyway. Try attic first though. Will save your aerial from the weather!

Have a 10 element group A aerial in the attic of the parents house at Murrisk and its picking up Saorview from C'bar/Glenisland with a full strength signal. Though it should be said the house is elevated with a clear view of the mast at Glenisland.

    Hi

I had a go at trying Castlebar with a group A aerial in May but no joy. Im in the UK at the moment for work but plan to try in August with a Group B aerial pointing to Achill.

If anyone has any info, would love to hear if they are getting an achill signal.

    Cheers

The RTÉNL coverage checker indicates Achill as the best choice for Louisburgh

Unfortunate. I'm guessing the hills near Old Head beach may be blocking out reception from Castlebar for you. Achill is on Channel 47, vertical polarisation.

    Hi

OK, I had a go pointing my Group A Aerial (which is the wrong one for Achill) at Achill and Galway. I didnt get anything from Achil but did get enough signal to get a picture on my test freeview box (Technika).

Unfortunately, when I brough the Aerial inside the house I didnt get anything but I did not have a lot of time to test but will try again soon.

The excitement of seeing RTE1 for the first time with a clear picture was well worth the effort :)

    I will update again soon.

    Cheers
