Got my laptop repaired, and I can't locate things that they said they wouldn't remove

When I gave it to them I had about 8 gigs free out of 250, now I have about 20 free.
I can understand that because I haven't done a disk clean-up in or defragement or whatever in a long time, so there was a lot of junk that needed clearing, and since they were fixing it they more than likely did it.
The thing is everything is uninstalled like he said it would, but when I search for my file's I get no results, even with a video I located myself the search can't see it, there is nothing in the C folder including downloads documents etc, but there is still only 17 gigs free out of 111, but most of the stuff is fine in D.
I know that C is the main drive, so since he had to install a new operating system (which was the job carried out) I understand why things would be displaced.
My main question is 'Where is all my stuff, and why won't search find anything including the 9066 songs that I've just been looking at (HAPPILY), I'm sure it's still there because empty folders couldn't possibly take up all that space.

He also said that he'l make sure everything stay's and I don't have to worry, but I am now :(.

    Cheers.

Is it Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7. Have a look in My Computer and expand the c: drive. Is there a 'Windows.old' folder?

Thanks very much for the quick reply, this is a great place!!! I love it.
Well it was Vista but he put in a new operating system, maybe it's the same again.

Your a legend, I see it, now I can just transfer all the files I want and delete the whole thing:D.

    Thanks a lot.

Similar to the 'Windows.old' as in you will have a 'new' account. Go into c:\users and see if there is a folder with your old account name. Everything should be in there. e.g: c:\users\john & c:\john2. One is your old account and one is your new account.

I found them in my documents, I thought they were stored in a seperate folder.

    Thanks.
