Photo hosting

Apologies if I've duplicated a recent thread, but I did a few searches and didn't come up with one.

I'm curious as to what photo hosting services we all use?

I for one use pix.ie and a little bit of facebook, but sometimes wish I could just use one - on facebook my friends can comment etc, but on pix.ie they can't where they haven't an account and most don't. Flickr, I assume is much the same, and I was even wondering whether I need another account there (or to resurrect the one I had before I realised pix.ie was Irish and therefore I wanted to support it), as I have some RL friends on Flickr not on pix.ie.

Do any of them offer links for people to buy prints? I'm thinking of situations where I've a picture of a friend who might want a copy for himself without bothering me. Also, I might one day take a photo good enough to sell on its own merits!

Also, I've noticed several photographers watermarking their images online - this strikes me as a good idea on the face of it. Is this easy to do? Is it necessary, where you limit your image size for upload?

Sorry for all the questions, and particularly if they've been answered before!

i find Flickr Pro account very good, you can save the original size file too, i think it costs around 20 euro for the year

For hosting sites that people can purchase your images - these two are very good going on reviews & the trial that they give you.

Zenfolio.com - people can purchase prints & download images - in euro

Smugmug.com - very good aswel, but you cant purchase in euro - us dollars only

I've a Flickr Pro account too. But that's for 'Photos', for 'Snaps' of socialising or samples of some of my photos from holidays etc, I use Facebook.

    flickr pro also.

tried pix.ie... just not a fan, seems like a tight knit group there, i guess i just feel left out when browsing...

I sometimes feel exactly the same about Pix. But I will continue to stick images on there, someone is definitely viewing, I'm just not getting the feedback I do on Flickr. Also have a pro account on there, I use a Chrome extension called 'Patr' which has some nice extras. It's much easier quote people with icons, and it has a nice lightbox feature, where when you click on any image it'll show you in a larger size on a dark backing.

Clicking on any image automatically launches the lighbox - larger size on a dark backing in flickr now for over 6 months. It's standard for everybody

Cool, I've had it for about a year, never knew it was standard. That was only one of many nice touches with the extension though.

You can see what it adds exactly over here:

Flickr Pro here also. I use it for hosing my images and then embed them into my blog post and set up various sets for different portfolio slide shows on my site.

I have Pix.ie, Flickr and Photobucket accounts.

Photobucket is for hosting snaps to share or post online. A big mix of stuff in there.

Flickr I have started to use because a project I am involved uses a Flickr Group. Cannot say I am a fan though. It seems clunky to use and is not intuitive.

Pix.ie is my main site for Photo's and my favourite. It's just so easy to use and friendly. I showed some folk here in Australia and they had not heard of it but loved it immediately.

Really? I think Flickr is the easiest to use, there's just more to do on there. Pix could do with laying your images out in most recent order automatically, with your sets/albums to the side, like Flickr. That and groups for discussion - I see they have some in beta but nobody is using them, like the boards.ie group on there. Early days I guess.
