My advice would be to skirmish a few times with an AEG but with semi auto only. This'll improve your accuracy and teach you to pick shots.
I've told this to a few friends of mine who want to be a sniper because if you can't get used to one shot at a time, then it's not for you.

I'm assault myself but I might move into DMR and maybe sniping down the line, but I try to use semi as much as possible to conserve ammo and improve my accuracy. I find it more rewarding than full auto sprays and high caps. I like to use mid caps but have some high caps if I feel like it :p

Best of luck. It takes a lot of practise but if you're willing, go for it :)
