Tight foreskin

    Hey guys,

I'm an 18 year old lad and I have a tight foreskin. It's only noticable when I'm hard and I'm really self-conscious about it...

I can't work up the courage to go to the doctor. I don't want to tell my parents (don't try to convince me on that one - not gonna happen) so what's the story with paying for circumcision? I'm totally comfortable with circumcision, in fact at this stage it's the only thing I want! I'm aware of the other 'stretching' methods and whatnot too...

I can't work up the courage to go to the doctor :(

    Any success stories...

I don't know what I'm looking for from this post... I need to rant, haha.

Go to your doctor - seriously. What worries you about attending your doctor?

    Hi OP

I went through the exact same thing as you, really. It's an unbelievebly common issue (not problem) so dont worry.
    I know it's a little silly telling you things will be ok in the end. But for the time in between I can give you a few tips;

First thing, tell your parents. Honestly, you'll need them during your time of healing. I know it's a little embarrasing but seriously they're there to look after you and they will support you (unless there's an issue there?)

the thing is, you'll need to go to your local GP to get a referal. I ended up going to St James Hospital. So in regards to paying, it will be whatever your healthcare plan is... and if you dont have one, then again your parents will need to step in.

I was refered to St James's (Out-Patient day ward, I think? again best ask GP)
On the Day of the Op, you'll be brought in to a bed, wheeled in, given an anisthetic, knocked out cold and wake up about 2-3 hours later. The nurses will give you toast, and I think they might keep you until you pass water just to make sure things are ok. Also you wont be aloud to drive home and you'll be required to have someone take you home (again parent or legal guardian good to have here) they're not going to let you take public transport either.... well i dont know if that's actually legal or anything but it's highly recommended.

The healing process is not pleasent. You'll be sore and tender for a month.
It will not look pretty. But with the right daily treatment, you'll improve each day.
It can play a little on the mind, especially at that age (close to my own when i got it done) so if you're feeling down about it, it's normal and will pass as you heal.

My own healing wasn't the best as I was a little... eh "icky" during the first week, I can tell you how to avoid that happening before the operation though so if you need any further advice on taking care of it you can PM me.

It is tough telling people, but only till you tell the first person. After that, it's easy! It costs about 2.4k privately and as goat mouth says, getting It without a doctor isn't possible. check out:

You may not need a circ btw - the thread is just for your info. Re talking to a doc.

Is it that expensive? I'm pretty sure I have health insurance? I don't have a medical card or anything though.

Telling my parents really isn't an option... I just don't want to and it's not necessary! I don't live at home anyway.

I'm just embarassed... how long does it usually take from consultation at doctor to the day of the operation?

    Thanks.

    I got circumcised when I was 19.

Seriously, your local GP has seen it all and can point you in the right direction - whether that means circumcision or another method.

Pluck up the courage and just do it! I went to the doctor without telling my parents, but I had to eventually tell them when letters from the hospital came through the door and they got quite worried that it might be something serious. Your parents are going to notice eventually if you get circumcised. It's not possible to hide it. You will be in pain and walking around is quite difficult for the first while; and you will probably have to take time off work or school or whatever.

Go for it man! It's nothing embarrassing. Don't let this hinder your life!

    About going to the doctor.

I though I found a lump on one of my testicles. It turned out it wasn't one, just a natural thing. But I did go to my Doctor about it and there was nothing embarassing about it. He was very professional, very forefront about it. It was nothing out of the blue for him, you could tell that he was just doing his job.

I had the same thoughts as you, but I went to the Doctor and there was zero problems. The trip was a total plus as he confirmed there I didn't have a lump.

Doctors will have seen much more embarassing things - a tight foreskin will be pretty run of the mill to them.

Go get it seen to, and you will feel much better

is getting circumcised the only option in most cases?

has anyone tried strecthing exercises and it worked?

dont fancy getting the circ but was wondering what percentage end up getting the operation.

no - there's also stretching and steroid creams, both of which have worked for some of the lads who posted in that thread I linked to.

For gods sake, go to a doctor. I'm going against the PI grain here, but you are responsible for yourself. If you want to treat yourself with steroid creams and "stretching" then go ahead. You'll only have yourself to blame when material trapped in there gets infected/septic.
I don't know what I'm looking for from this post... I need to rant, haha.

Coming on here and trying to get posters to "encourage" you to go to a doctor is quite frankly idiotic.

In fairness the OP was looking for advice on what route to take, and maybe see if there was an alternative to an GP...

    So shush.

You need to go to the doctor, surgery or correction won't happen without a hospital appointment, which won't happen without a referral

    Einstein by name, eh?

Yeah great idea. Let's give him some alternative options. Sure what would a doctor know about overly tight foreskin anyway. Good luck OP.

I think the point is, he has now learned there is no alternative.

There are some alternatives actually my frisbee shaped friend. Different stretching exercises can prove to be very successful with some people.

Fine. Let a doctor be the one to decide the course of treatment. Discouraging him from seeing a doctor immediately is hindering any possible cure or solution.

OP stop worrying about costs etc. You quite literally only have one penis, it's worth looking after it :D

Worked for me for the most part. OP, sounds like you have phimosis, (not making a medical judgement, but it's so common that it's the most likely scenario from his description.) I have the same issue, well, used to be an issue, I don't let it bother me anymore.

Anyway, mine was so bad that even when flaccid I couldn't retract my foreskin, was really really annoying and made general care and maintainence a bit of a bother. I tried the stretches and they did work very well for me, especially when flaccid, I still can't retract fully when erect, but I have mostly stopped with the stretches anyway given it's no longer a problem and I don't really want the foreskin to fully retract, just enough that using a condom isn't problematic.

Anyway, when I was in your shoes I gave the stretching a shot first, made sense given I hate going to the doctor (stupid really to not wanna get checked out but I worry) Give it a shot, don't expect quick results and don't over stretch can cause paraphimosis, where the foreskin gets stuck back that is a scary 10 minutes let me tell you!

I won't advise you not to go to the doctor, because it is a good idea to be checked out from time to time, but stretching does work with alot of people.

    Well guys, OP here.

Just back from the doctor! Soooooo happy I went! I feel great. Yeah it was embarassing and it was obvious I was nervous but it's all good now. She referred me to some other guy who will hopefully get in contact asap. She reckons I need a circumcision alright, I'm delighted. Will probably have to tell my parents (ugh) but I'm happy for now. The journey has begun!

How tight is it? make sure it's necessary. I just had sex for years and it stopped, it used to not go down at all, ever. Thanks sex! Nothing like a disease cured by sex.
