hey, i am contemplating selling one of my guitars on ebay as it has had no luck on adverts, but my one niggling doubt is how much of the sale price will go on shipping, or how much shipping buyers are willing to pay.

has anyone here ever posted a guitar abroad? what service did you use? the weight, including hardcase, is about 8.5 kg.

    Hi,

All the large couriers have calculators on their sites, UPS, FedEx, An Post. Just put in the advert that you will ship worldwide but don't set the price, the bidders will ask for a shipping quote. If its an expensive guitar insist on insurance and tracking.

The shipping calculator of An Post can be quite deceptive. As far as I know, shipping a guitar can actually work out a lot cheaper than the calculator suggests once you bring it along to a post office.

Someone might like to clarify this.

I posted a PRS to Spain 18 months ago via An Post. I think it was €80 give or take a tenner with damn all insurance.

Insurance is a personal thing, but remember if the guitar is damaged or lost in transit you are responsible in the eyes of ebay/paypal. Tracking numbers are a must either way, as there have been loads of buyers on ebay who claim they don't recieve the goods even though they do and then claim the cost back from paypal which comes from you! and 99% of the time paypal sides with them.

okay, guitar is now on ebay. optimistically, i'd be aiming for about 500 to win it.

could someone please post some shipping calculator links? an post is reasonable price-wise but i can't seem to get details on their insurance (reg post is already insured up to 150, but obviously that's not enough)
