Totally new to laptops. Right, all my fault the screen is cracked. I looked up my warranty, no accidental damage cover. It's a Dell Inspiron 11z, bought online. Can I bring it in to a PC shop in town though and they'll fix it for me? What would the cost be roughly- any chance the cost might be lower than normal since it's a much smaller screen? Thanks, sorry I know I should know these things!

Your warranty may not cover the damage done to the laptop but it may cover the work needed to fix it so ringing Dell is probably your best bet. It can be very hard for independent(i.e non Dell partner) repair shops to source replacement parts for Dell laptops. Plus your guaranteed your warranty won't be voided by having them do the work.

Screens are readily available. Anyone can source one on ebay and the prices are very reasonable. LINK. I'd do the repair myself tbh, it's generally not particularly hard to do.

You'll just end up paying through the nose for dell to do anything

If you have a screwdriver and a new screen (ebay) can be done in 20 mins. Not a hard job. (have done it before) :D

Ah I'd make a mess of that myself, hopefully my brother can. Thanks for help.

brokenscreen.ie are quoting me €165 for courier collection, rpair, insurance, and delivery- think it will only take 2 days. Was hoping it would be cheaper since it's a smaller screen than average but I suppose Dell are a rip-off in every sense. Screens seem to be about €90 online minus shipping hmmm.

I remember back in the "olden" days that a broke screen meant you may as well just buy a new laptop - replacement screen would be more than then thing cost originally.

Won't need to be so hasty with the "don't touch the screen" shout:D

One of the guys at work used http://screenreplacement.ie/ to get the screen replaced in his laptop recently.

He found them good to deal with.
