Golf in the sun - best value

Looking to book a golf holiday for 4 in the sun in April or May.

What do people think is the best value out there? Probably going to book flights, accommodation, car hire and golf separately as have done this in the past and prefer this to booking a package.

Previously have been to Costa del Sol playing the courses around Mijas.

Any advice, tips or recommendations? Have seen a lot of advertising for golf in Tenerife? Any thoughts? Also, any reommendations in Portugal?

Tenerife's ok, there's not too many courses but the value is decent. Its not a major golf resort and golf isn't that big a deal there. The three courses i know are:
Costa Adeje - this is a very good track,
Los Americas - this is pretty good,
Amarilla golf - again, this is ok.

A lot depends on the conditions, they had a very dry hot summer when I was there and it had affected the courses, guys who had been there before were saying that normally they're much better.
Flight is a bit long to get there though, is the only thing.

Portugal is very good around the Vilamoura area, better value to be had just outside the town rather than the main 5 or 6 Oceanico courses, although some of them are good. You could try Morgado - its up in the hills about an hour from Vilamoura and is a really good course, worth the drive IMO, there's two courses there, can't remember which one is which though, we only played one of them.
Back in the resort, if you get the two good nines in Vila Sol its also decent. Quinta do Lago is about 40 mins from Vilamoura and is excellent, you might get a deal there these days.

Portugal can be expensive, certainly more so than Tenerife, but golf is a much bigger deal for them.

    Thanks for the info all.

There are 4 of us. We want to go for about 7 days, play golf for at least 5 days, and would be budgeting for green fees of an average of about 50 Euros if possible.

diy clueless: where exactly are you staying and what courses are you playing?

I have recently booked a trip to the Algarve (East) in the middle of May for two couples for €330 each for six days. That includes:
Return flights - Aer Lingus including 1 check in bag each
Car Hire - Ford Focus estate (or similar)
Accommodation - 3 bed modern apartment in Cabanas - 30 mins east of Faro - with access to swimming pools and short boat ride to the beach. Note: If you want nightlife this place is NOT for you but perfect for r & r.
Club hire - Four sets of Taylormade R9's from clubstohire.com. - Collect at Faro.

I have not booked golf yet as we are meeting up soon to sort this out but we will pay between €45 - €70 per round. I have been there lots of times so I know what to book etc.
If you need any detailed info let me know and I will try to help!
p.s. I am heading over there in early February for the East Algarve Trophy (competition) and will finally get to play Monte Rei!! Looking forward to that!!

I have 2 Bedroom accommodation available in Vilamoura right next to the Golf Club ( literally only 100 yds aprox away from Clubhouse and Driving Range) and can I arrange Golf car hire etc. It's only 20 minutes from the Airport. Anyone interested send me a pm and I can give you more information including Photo's.
