Where to meet Cork singles?

Hi everyone - I am just out of a relationship of 4 years where everything I did was around this girl. Lots of issues contributed to the breakup, the final being her starting another relationship before we had finally closed the door on ours. I have to say, I am hurting hugely from this outside of the breakup - my thoughts are driving me crazy. Suddenly, I have a huge void in my life, sitting here looking at 4 walls is not doing me good. I'm 48, divorced with (almost) grown up kids - all my friends are married & busy with their own lives & I just don't know where to start a new social life. Anyone know where like minded people go to meet in Cork? - I'm not looking for a new relationship - no where near ready for it - just a place to go to meet new people. Any ideas anyone?

Hiking club? Some kind of sporting team? Book club? They're all the things I do when I move to a new city and they work! What are you into?

Hi OP, I am in same boat and age group. I was told to join Meetup.com as it is for people in Cork who just want to get out and meet new people.
There is a meet up most weeks including this week , I will be at my first one this week.
There are lots of divorced/separated people in the area who are just looking to get out a bit. All my friends are married so I know what you mean..I felt on the outside.

Thanks Milkmaid - had not heard of this & will look into it. cheers & enjoy the first meet...may see you at one in the future.

Thanks also Dory - not a physical activity person short of the odd 1 mile walk but yes - never know I might take to the hills. Cheers :)

Hi nocturnal31, going to dip my toe in this week and make myself get out there and make new friends as a new year resolution after wasting way too much time on someone.
Might see you at a meet-up in the future.

There's a big cork community going with outings etc in the cork city forum. I was main part of it myself until I moved to Dublin. It is great and you sure to meet lots people there.

Hey there Nocturnal and Milkmaid - similar age and situation myself re. 6 years of my life wasted on the wrong man - but different in that I've always had a very active social life - so my friends and social life have never been so good!!!

But when I returned to Ireland 11 years ago I had to start all over again.

I joined a political party - (no matter what your political views - if you join a group supporting the party you believe in - you are already meeting like minded people - of all ages and walks of life). And there are great social events.

And I do voluntary work at the Everyman Theatre - Front-Of-House - put your name down - you meet wonderful people both fellow volunteers and patrons - and see all the shows/concerts - you have to commit to a night a week - well worth it. You could try there or the CAT Club?

And yes at our age our friends are married/children/own responsibilities - but I spend a lot of time with my married friends too - you may think they don't have time for you - but they do - and through them - you will meet other people.

So if neither appeal to you i.e. politics/theatre - then offer your services voluntarily somewhere else - it is rewarding to help others - and you don't know what kind of doors will open socially.

But think of this time in your life as a new beginning - get out there and enjoy this new chance to do the things you want to - when you want to!

    Have lots of fun!!!
