Taking Console out, much of a job?

    1998 Corolla 1.3L Liftback

I am doing a bit of overhaul work on me beloved Corolla this weather. One thing I would like to do is get behind the console to fix a few faded bulbs, give it a clean and change the speedo cable.

As a job, is it worth it? Or is it too much of a headache. Anyone else done it to this make/model?

I've replaced the backlight bulbs on a Carina before, main problem is you need to be real careful not to leave dust of fingerprints after you have finished, you should wear gloves.

    This might help...

I have a feeling that eHow is for American Corolla's.

the dash bulbs are a common flaw, the speedo cable apparently is also quite easy to damage while attempting to replace the bulbs :D

theres a few useful guides on toyotaownersclub-irl.com

id give you links but you have to be a member to view

riteo, just found the guide, realised its more to do with wiring than actually removing the gauges so its probably not much use to you.

but the good news is i stumbled upon an online e11 haynes manual on there for your model which should be miles more useful

(it does take a minute to load)

feel free to ask for help on there too, they're a nice bunch, still trying to get the ball rolling with the site.
