    hi,

my house is 150 sq meter and i have 13 rads. my oil boiler is firebird 90. my burner is reillo an it says 40 on the front cover.
What exactly does this "40" mean? Should i use a bigger boiler or burner as sometimes it can take a while for the rads to heat up?

    Thanks a lot

    John

    Basically Firebird 90 means 90,0000BTU's.
depending on actual model it can output between 70k to 100k. Btu dependent on the commisioning and injector/ oil pressure and air setting of the burner.
Riello 40 is the type of burner. It is probably either a model G3B or G5X etc.

If you calculate the heat output of the radiators and allow hot water cylinder load( duty) hen this should be around or less than 90,000 BTU's.

Take measurements of rads (and rooms) and take it to a boiler/ plumbing wholesaler/ supplier who can size a boiler for you.

Tell them you want to buy a new boiler to replace the one you have at the moment....:D....

90,000.00 equates to 26KW approx which may well be correctly sized, you can either do your own boiler sizing using online heatloss calculator or ask a reputable heating engineer. I`ve seen too many occassions where bigger boilers have been installed and not cured the problem. You need to have a look at the building, insulation, double glazing, open un-used chimneys etc which you will need to input to get an accurate answer on boiler size. It takes a suprisingly small boiler to heat a well insulated house, also make sure the system is clean and treated, has good heating controls and TRV`s, zone the system and make sure it has a good quality pump ie Grundfos IMHO are by far the best.

Oh yeah then fit the right nozzle at the right pressure and make sure to set up the burner with a Flue Gas Analyser so that CO, CO2 and temperature meet the manufacturers instructions.
