    Hi,

just wondering if there is a website in ireland where i can check the details of a second hand car I am considering buying

in the uk they have the HPI website where you put in the car registration and pay a fee of £10 or £15 to get it's history - if it has been crashed, if there is hire purchase outstanding on it, etc

is there a similar website in Ireland?

    many thanks

Some made him feel unwelcome so that might have something to do with it

I didn't fully understand but it had something to do with a radio interview he done and some other motoring related issues.

As I said I DON'T FULLY KNOW the ins and outs but he got a bit of a rough ride in a thread he started and went fairly quiet after that.

Others can fill you in on the whole story

Be aware that in relation to crash data, such websites (regardless in Ireland or the UK) rely on information provided by insurance companies. Don't assume that no info on a car means it hasn't been crashed, some cars have been repaired without going through insurance. You should always ensure you have a car properly inspected if you're serious about buying it.

^ I would agree with above, as I ploughed my car into a wall in Christmas 2009, and didn't tell the insurance (paid from my own pocket). But since I don't ever intend in selling my car it doesn't bother me.

Get a competent mechanic to inspect the car.

Ya John there was a thread here and there was savage bitching going on and Motorcheck was in the middle of it. I havent seen him since which is a pity because I enjoyed his input. I see that his site actually has got rid of car sales stats now to regular viewers. Pity.

It was cringe worthy reading to be honest but a sad case of a good guy feeding the trolls and getting wrapped up in what they were banging on about.

As I saw it he provided a good and free service for a few on here and got treated like crap.

    Pity

He did well not to spit the dummy and leave the place.

In fairness he answered every accusation with reason and straight away. then again he has a business to protect

    Hi All,

Thanks for the positive comments. A new baby at home has kept me very busy these last couple of months but things are slowly coming back to normal now....

There's been a fair bit of talk about the registration stats going behind a login on the site but if anyone wants access just pm me with your email address and I'll send you a login. I have a dedicated boards.ie account up and running for just this reason.

In the interim here's a link that the stat enthusiasts among you will enjoy. It's a daily count of the vehicles being registered in Ireland for the first time http://www.motorcheck.ie/todaysstats. Enjoy :)

I think motorchecks opinion is very important on any forum. I bought a car a couple of years ago and didnt use any of these sites. Went to Conlons in Kildare to trade it in and found there was 95k more miles on car. Motorcheck keep up the good work and dont let gobsh1tes wind you up.
