Its walk in - They are very friendly and very willing to put you at ease - there is an outreach worker there who can answer your questions

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Is there not an appointment facility as well, so you don't have to wait for ages?

Yeah I think there is an appointment service as well but not 100% definite because their website doesnt mention it - Id say maybe contact them and check

This might seem silly for some people, but your local GP provides all the STD and STI tests. So bear that in mind.

Not for free, which is the very first word of the title...

You can get free testing in James' (as well as a host of regional hospitals for those outside of Dublin) also.

Nope not for free, but after being in the "free" places queuing for hours and waiting weeks for the results, I think it's worth pointing out that GPs provide all the tests and it's just a lot handier.

    Hi everyone,

Sorry to hijack this thread but didnt think it was worth making a new one over! Just wanted to ask is it advisable for lesbian/bisexual women to get an STD check? Sorry if I sound like an idiot. I am quite informed about human biology :D it's just there isnt much emphasis on lesbian/bisexual sexual health these days..

I know there is minimal risk of passing STD's like HIV from female to female but obviously it depends on the sexual activity and there are a range of other STD's that could potentially be passed.

Where in Dublin could a female get tested for everything (preferably for free)?

    Thanks :)

GMHP also gives free Hep B vaccinations.

Yes, you do have risks too, but I'm not aware of anyone specifically targeting women and offering it for free. I initially thought this was it, but apparently that's just for prostitutes. I presume you can go to the free clinics in The Mater or St James'?

Do you not get a lecture from the outreach working at the GMHP?

You could still be waiting weeks for a GP and the test results will form part of your medical history. In the free clinics you can get tested anonymously. Some might argue that your medical history should be as complete as possible.

Most GPs send their tests either to the same labs as the GMHP - 1 week turnaround - or to the UK, generally a 5 calender day turnaround, give or take a bit for courier time.

You can also go a different GP and give gibberish details if you so wish.

However, expect to pay from 40 to 120 quid and it'll generally just be bloods. The GMHP takes swabs too. I, however, prefer just bloods...
