I remember seeing a while back, a PDF with tolerances included. It may of been CAA (which I've been told have less strict allowances), but if you look at the thread a few below this about medicals (I'll edit in a link if I can, currently on my phone) it'll give you an idea of what to expect.
A bit of googling may bring up a similar PDF.

    Thanks for the reply,

For anybody interested after a bit of googling I came across the
JAR Class 1 -Initial Examination Visual Standards:

Kevin Tempany in Ranelagh used to do renewals, albeit JAA which should be didnt include IAA renewals.. Anyways give them a shot, it was a few years ago though but might still do it.. Its the one beside the bank...

Check this list of AME's in Dublin, Doctor Tempany is there. But ignore Dr Colm Killeen, that needs updating. Sadly he died last year.

The aeromed section in the Mater Private is the only place that can examine you for a class 1 med,The list of other practises is for class 2 only afaik the Doc that does the eye examination for the class 1 has her own clinic.

You can go to the guy in Ranelagh but is seems to be only if the lady who does it in the Mater is unavailable. When i was doing my class 1 initial the first date I chose the doctor who does it in Mater was away so they said I could see the guy in Ranelagh, because it was a pain I just booked another day when she was back from hols

I presume you want to check if you will pass before paying for the initial class 1. There is nothing special about the class 1 eyesight standards, 6/6 with both eyes and 6/9 each eye individually. Any GP should be able to tell you if you meet these standards or not. If you got some eyesight charts you could even test yourself!

Binocular Vision? Ive never heard of that as a defect, I thought binocular vision just meant sight with two eyes as opposed to one.

Just go for the class 1 Med op also specsavers are opticians not opthamolgists you could also fail on the ECG etc,Take my case over the years I cycled about 200 miles a week did mountain marathons etc so i would consider myself to be fairly fit.
With the company I worked for they had us do a basic medical including the eye examination which I passed,So when I failed the initial class 1 I was shocked also I have used specsavers in the past for my eye tests for the renewing of my drivers licence and they never picked up on my condition which the aeromed did.

You posted a link to the class 1 eyetest standards earlier in this thread. I dont see any reference to binocular or 3D vision in it. I suggest you show this to specsavers and ask them which requirement exactly are they stating that you do not meet. When you know this you can seek further advice.

I am in the exact same position as yourself. I went to Dublin and had a partial class 1 assesment i.e: I was only tested on my eyesight and was told that if I was to apply for a full class 1, that I would fail on the grounds of having no binocular vision. However each case is different. Can I assume dat since you have no Binocular vision that you to have a lazy eye?. Some degree of ''lazy eye'' is acceptable. If this is the case and you do have a lazy eye I would sugest seeing an opthamologist and to have the turn of your eye measured and a report sent to the aeromed team in Dublin. Unfortunately this did not work for me. But I have not given up just yet. I couldn't possibly give up without another go. There is always the option to go and have the class 1 in the UK where they are usually more understanding in cases like this. Its not guaranteed to work but its worth a try.

Yea I've been looking at that and I sent the CAA an email and they requested a report from my last eye test and they'll get their optometrist to have a look at it for me to see what he thinks, they seem like they genuinely want to help you wish I could say the same for the IAA

Great to hear of someone who's managed to get around it. Would you be able to tell me who you went to, to get it sorted out?

    Thanks alot,
    Jack

When I failed the class 1 the Doc gave me a prescription for spec savers so off I went to get the glasses and return to the aeromed three months later,Spec savers did not issue the corect lens strenght so they replaced them with the corect one three months later I resat the eye examination and passed.
At the time I was thinking of the laser eye surgery the opthamalogists told me it would not work for me as I have said before go for the full medical you never know what else could be wrong with you.

I know an individual who was busted by the IAA chief medical examiner, a Dutch woman, but subsequently passed in the UK. The only problem was he then had to do the CPL in the UK. So much for JAR standardisation. His case was not an isolated incident either.

His son, also Dr. Colm Killeen, continues the pratice at the same clinic. Had my Class 2 with him a few months back and found him to be very good.
