Try switching off the Terrain layer...

Sound, what is the difference with it on anyway?
I thought I could zoom in on them before!

i'm assuming here but wouldn't zooming on the terrain layer defeat the purpose of the terrain layer (i.e. to see the elevation increments of 100m)

*EDIT* also there's no terrain view here on iOS 4.

Exactly, it seems the Terrain layer doesn't have the resolution to support the deep zoom as the main vector based map.
