On a serious note the honda is a good car. It would be worth taking that car for a test drive.

Some price for a small petrol car..

The mother has one as the company car, nice enough. Comfy, plenty space front and back, and big aul boot there too. Only things that ever really annoyed me about it was the spoiler type thing straight through the middle of the rear window, visibilty looking back is poor enough cause of the shape of the car, pillars etc....and if its raining and you open the doors, the water run off from the roof goes straight into the car...or onto you as your getting in/out....

They are a nice car alright. A lot nicer looking than the boring Golf. Frugal on petrol. Very nice to drive too but a bit dead. I think the latest ones are iVTEC. Wife has one and loves it.

Mad price for a 1.4 petrol car pushing 4 years old now. Apart from that, good machine

This seems decent enough for the price?

I'd prefer to buy local enough ...I'm in Drogheda. I'd be doing about 300 miles a week...need something comfortable. Had a honda rex before and loved it.

God dam that first civic. The better part of €13k? thats 5 year old GTI money.
It still amazes me how many people know the price of everything and the value of nothing.

€9K MAX and €70 back to fill the tank and I'd still always feel I could ave got a LOT more for my money.

Closer to 95bhp, which would be a lot more than a similar Golf or Focus of that year.

OP, that is very expensive for a 07 so I'd shop around. I'm all for keeping my business local but not at the expensive of being fleeced. Loyalty is a two way street remember. As for the car itself, they are a good car but like most things these days not as bomb proof as previous generation Civics.

The 1.4-litre DSI engine is available only in the five-door bodystyle and with the SE trim level

The 1.4-litre i-DSI engine is an 82bhp unit...

    PERFORMANCE: 0-60mph 14.6s / Max Speed 106mph

    http://uk.cars.yahoo.com/car-reviews/car-and-driving/honda-civic-1.4-i-dsi-1005197.html

I was pretty sure you could get a golf or focus with a 90BHP 1.4 unit?

Golf is 75hp although vw also do a 100hp 1.4 but not in the golf.
Focus was 75 then 80hp on the mk2
    Corolla is 95hp and 97hp from 07
    Rover 25 is 105hp
Honda 1.4 dsi is 82hp but the later lower emissions i-VTEC is 98hp
    Kia ceed/Hyundai i30 both 89hp or 108hp with cvvt

Don't forget the Golf 1.4 TSI pumping out an astonishing 170BHP.

    @OP

The 1.4 DSI engine in that Civic is pretty slow. I mean it's fine at cruising speeds, but the acceleration is noticeably slow. Now you may be happy to poodle about, but it feels seriously slow. Yes, its emissions are low, but this won't make a difference as it's still a 1.4 (the newer tax regime started in 08)

Separately, this is an SE model. Just one level up from the base, no badly spec'd but nothing special. Only special thing I can see is the 16" alloys. Like others I think you may get better value for money elsewhere.

Bear in mind the 3 year Honda Warranty has also expired.

If you are looking at one of these cars, I'd strongly recommend the the 1.8 in this car. It seemed to strike the balance for the car, even compared to the 2.2 diesel. The tax difference between the two is marginal in the overall costs.

As for reliability, sure Honda's aren't as reliable as before (i.e. in the top 2 in most surveys) but there are far from the scrap heap too!

You can get for that price a 5 year old top of the range Vauxall Monaro for that kind of money or a same age bmw 3 series audi a4 ;)

    Model: Civic 1.4 I SE 5 DOORS 5DR Engine: 1.3 Petrol Price: €12,950 Year: 2008 Colour: Metallic Black Mileage: 42,495 miles / 68,389 kilometers

Shows how far off the mark the OPs advert was when even the official Honda.ie site sell them cheaper. Still mad money.

why are they still so expensive compared to other makes of similar years though?

Thought you were after a diesel Golf?

    Opinions on this Golf?
