Heating oil truck hose length.

    Evening all.

I am considering moving my oil tank from the front to the back of the garden.
This would make it about 30m from where the oil truck can park.

Dose anyone know the length of the hoses on these trucks? Could it reach?

    I use Olympic Oil.

    Thanks,

    Wavey.

I dont know sorry. I would ring them though and ask them.

A problem i always had however with long hoses is you are not charged on fuel from the outlet of the hose but the outlet of the truck so if he normally uses one length the you will have lost that amount and the amount in the other hoses i would imagine.

perhaps someone that understands this better can explain.

    Thanks Joey,

I was also considering moving the oil burner to the back.
This would mean the radiator 3/4" feed and return would be be approx 15m from the house to the burner.
My dad is adament that this length of pipe run would lose too much heat even if insulated and under ground. I'm not convinced.

I'de say it depends on the flowrate of the hot water.

Do you or any other boardies have any opinions/experience of this?

    Thanks,

    Wavey.

You can avoid the how long is the hose issue, by fitting a valve to where its easy access for the truck, while easy to pipe back to the tank. The nozzle fits into your pipe, and then fills your tank that way. Houses with no side passage often have this setup at the front of the house, and its piped into the tank in the back garden.
