    Alright guys...

Just wondering what you guys are putting on the master bus. Am tracking through a compressor and a limiter but not sure this is the right way to go.

Thomann were recently doing a great deal on the ssl bus compressor but it came when i was unfortunately broke... Have my eye on 'the glue' plugin for both my master and drum bus...

Any info would be great... Cheers..

depending on the material it could be 1 of a few:

slate fxg compressor, the glue, uad neve 33609, api2500, softube cl1b

also slate mixbuss and uad pultec.

    Cheers guys....

Am guessing that you guys are using a compressor on its own most of the time... and also mixing through it from the start.

Also a question to DamagedTrax.. How to you rate the glue in comparison to some top hardware?

i tend to mix into it from the start. something like the 33609 really tonally shapes your mix even at 0db compression, so putting it on afterwards rarely works.

the api2500 can work as a fix on the master if you throw it on at the end but it still doesnt have the sound of mixing thru it from the start.

given the cash i'd take the hardware but the glue sounds real to me.

i really wouldnt worry too much about how it compares to hardware if i was you. for every 100 who swear its like hardware there's another 100 who swear it doesnt. its a lovely sounding bus compressor that nails the SSL sound and adds a few modern updates, thats all that really matters.

I mix into Phoenix Audio DRS-Q4 for tranny and EQ into Drawmer 1968me compressor.
Goes on from the start. Mixing into this rig has totally transformed the sound of my mixes.
Used to use waves ssl comp on the bus but it sounded flat compared to the Drawmer/DRS rig.

    Great info guys....

I think for the time being i will pick up 'the glue' over the weekend and maybe when the ears gets better over the next few years i might demo some of the hardware....

Have just headed over to the dark side of OTB with a console over the christmas and have my new set up nearly ready..Its a steep curve and at the moment but am learning a good bit every day.

PS ..The Drawmer1968 looks like a really nice piece of kit...

The Glue is one of the best bus compressors and over all comps out there. What makes it more appealing is the price.
