I have an old JVC AL-E31BK turntable that came from another hifi system that I want to connect to my stereo system and I need to power it.
There is a male power lead coming out of the back and it says DC 11-13v. I was told that it's not simply a matter of finding a 11-13v power supply for it, I need to find out how many amps or milliamps it requires and then buy the right power supply. I can't find anything about amperage on the unit and not having much luck googling the model number either.

Any suggestions on how I can get it powered?

Does it give a power consumption figure in watts? if so Watts/volts=amps.

You would have to check if the turntable requires 12v DC or AC and get a power supply that suits. If the turntable needs 3A you need a supply that can deliver 3A or preferably a bit more. More is fine, less not so. I am just guessing that 5A is likely to be enough.

Unfortunately there is no more information on the unit so I can't figure out how much power it wants to draw.

Actually if I can get look at the hi fi that I took the unit from I might be able to find more info. A guy in an electrical shop suggested that it may be a few hundred milliamps to 1 amp.

I would think that finding a power supply that has a female socket might be a bit difficult so cutting the two leads and joining them together would be one solution.
