I note how they don't specify the score in the Irish Army/NHARNG match.

Just a quick question for the PDF lads. I happen to have a link with Lt Col Valas in the story here and know that he is 38 years old or so. I was just wondering would it be possible to reach that rank in the PDF at that age. His younger brother is a SF major by the way and he's 35.

Well done to all the lads involved, I could definitely see hurling becoming an international sport if it was advertised properly. The pace, skill, and toughness involved would surely appeal to plenty of sporting types.

I brought a hurley with me to Canada when I was there a few years ago, the local firefighters saw us pucking a ball one day and stopped for about 20 minutes to talk about it-they had never seen it before. I ended up sending a hurling DVD to one of them over there. They were fascinated by it...

you mean if the GAA pushed the game to the masses internationally by getting it on as many native tv chanels as possible rather than limiting its availability abroad by insisting on an ex pat subscription model that only a handful of people huddled in an irish pub on a sunday ever see?

That's exactly what I mean. I was going to type 'but the thick gombeen men in this country would never have the vision for that' but I just knew everybody would know what I meant anyway! :)

the narrator made me do a double take, i thought she was constantly referring to conquered New Hampshire (cue GC thinking of the American Civil War/War of Independence/War of 1812 and wondering why it's still valid on 2011) not realising it was the town of Concord, New Hampshire....
