Todays Irish examiner leads with "Jean’s fashion goes down a storm". http://www.irishexaminer.com/ireland/jeans-fashion-goes-down-a-storm-141416.html

The online version only has one photo but the paper version has a number of photos. The article is quite sexist and something that would be expected from a tabloid.

"This left many male viewers hot under the collar with online comments reflecting their flushes"

Can the woman not wear what she wants without making the national news?

I think she's great. Here is a mature woman who chooses to wear what she pleases and looks good. I'm willing to bet that her style has helped to boost RTE weather's ratings and is a welcome distraction from the fact that the weather's rubbish at this time of year.

What I'd like to know is, where did she get that dress? I want one!

She's making other women her age jealous by showing she's not got cellulite!

Well there was a thread about her on After hours only recently, wouldn't surprise me if the author is a boardsie, or lurker!

A lot of what passes for "light" journalism is based on boards threads these days.

How, pray tell, is that 'sexist'? I've lost count of the number of articles about male footballers/singers etc that mentioned how they would have their female fans swooning and whatnot.

    Really, who cares?

Front page Irish examiner? It seems more like tabloid news to me. It was quite sexist. She's a beautiful, smart woman who has been very successful. Lets not have her success demeaned by what she wears!

Didn't realise that there was another thread. BTW, what is a boardsie supposed to be exactly?

Don't think it was sexist at all. Question of writing style really, but it was hardly Benny Hill. Would prefer to see more features on Jean Byrne of that nature than rubbish about Rosanna Davison, Glenda Gilsen, Miriam O'Callaghan and the other serial attention seekers.

    Go Tarbert!

I personally think that what she wears sometimes is inappropriate, with regard to when she wears it. If she wants to wear a dress where a large portion of her torso including around the nether regions is visible that's fine. But not during her broadcast thank you very much. Out at dinner yes, certainly. She's a fairly attractive woman, let her flaunt it.

However, the weather forecast is delivered in 60 seconds and all 60 seconds should be spent on taking in the information. It is an extremely important broadcast vis a vis fisheries, driving etc. We don't need distractions.

The person delivering the news/weather, should not become the news itself.

It is the golden rule of broadcasting.
