Hi, Yes it's hot over here and you can't really drink. You can get a liqour license which have a managable limit per month, or you can pay EU. 8 a pint and become a member of the only Irish bar in Doha if you like. Depends on who you are planning on coming with ideal for families, singles - I'm not so sure- lots of construction work especially if you are qualified

It'll be the place to be in a few years in relation to the wages in construction. The money is pretty good at the moment but construction has kind of nose dived (lots of job at a standstill) the last 2 years. It is noticeably picking up though already since the WC announcement.

The drink is expensive over here but there is 3 / 4 bars in most hotels so the whole myth of you can't really drink is just that... a myth. The most popular is the Irish bar of course and if your into packed bars like at home then it wouldn't be much different. You just can't be falling out of the hotel hammered drunk because that could land you in trouble however I have yet to see it.

In relation to the visa issue you will arrive on a holiday visa but they may ask you for proof of a return flight in Dublin before you board the plane. If you have a job before coming out the company should sort that out anyway. You then get your visa through the company and the arab sponsor that owns the majority stake.

At the moment you can't just job hop in Qatar as once you get your residents permit with a sponsor / company and you want to move job they have to sign their permission. If not you have to leave Qatar as they will cancel your visa and you won't be allowed work in Qatar again for 2 years (this may be reduced to 6 months shortly).

If your a typical Irish guy you'll probably hate it at first (we all did and still do for the most part) but you just get used to it and use it for what it is... a means to save money.
