Hotel near Chelsea/Kensington

Hello, booking a weekend in London for my boyfriend's birthday and wondered if anyone could recommend a nice hotel close to Chelsea/Kensington areas?

Ideally somewhere that is a bit smarter than the average hotel but won't break the bank - if that exists!

    Thanks!

The Hilton hotel in Kensington currently have a half price offer on! It's costing me €225 for a double room for two for two nights! :)

Nice hotel and a pretty nice price considering! :)

I found them on expedia.ie but I'm pretty sure the offer is everywhere. It's defo through their home site as well!

Not too sure of hotels in that area of london, but it is a posh enough area so you should have no problem finding an upmarket place to stay.
If you're not tied down to that area you should try The raddison edwardian Bloomsbury street hotel. It is located between leicester sq and oxford st. Very nice hotel and area. The Raddison Edwardian have 5 other hotels in that area stayed in The Mountbatten and Kenilworth aswell. Bloomsbury st one is the best I've stayed in.

Having stayed in both the Hilton Kensington and Metropole I would have to say avoid the latter unless you are there on business or conferencing. The Kensington Hilton is far better for a city break IMHO.

After reading the reviews from the metropole i went off it immediately, but got the Kensington in the end.

    Hi there,

was thinking about heading over to London Paddys wkd to visit friends.

They still have that offer on in Hilton Kensington -but not sure if good value ? works out (incl taxes) as around €464 for 17/18/19 March (King room, advance booking rate - going on my own) what do you think???

Also whats the area like for going out - parks, restaurants, coffee shops? Have been in Westfiels once and loved it...think its near this hotel? How far from Oxfors street/ Covent garden??

    Thanks...

It's located more in the Holland Park area. It's not normally my part of London, I'm more South Kensington, and it is a few years since I have been in the Holland Park area.

What I will say is that Noting Hill is a short walking distance and the entrance to Kensington Gardens.

Imo Oxford Street is very walkable particularly if the weather is good and its a more or less straight walk, just come out of hotel, turn right(from memory ;)) and its a straight walk all the way to Oxford Street. Probably about a 20 min walk.

You can also get a direct tube (Central Line) from Holland Park to Marble Arch/Bond Street( best tube stop for Selfridges on Oxford Street).

For Covent Garden, take the Central line further on to Holborn and you can more or less walk to Covent Garden from there or if you wish change to Piccadilly line and just one stop to Covent Garden from there.

As I said I would prefer the South Kensington area myself, just like it for restaurants coffee shops etc but as you are quite close to Notting Hill Gate you will have pubs/restaurants quite close by.

As I said its a while since I've been in that immediate area and with the new Westfield shopping centre, I'm sure it has changed a great deal since.

If you have any other questions please feel free to ask.

Click the below link and click tube station option, gives you quite a good map

Thanks Open road. I have no idea of good/nice areas within London as I generally just know the shopping centres ! lol.

So you would recommend South Kensington? Anyone recommend nice hotel around this area or somewhere central? Thanks.:o

To be honest, I wouldn't put you off your original choice, you are close by to Holland Park which is a very nice area of London, I just personally prefer the South Kensington area, I normally stay in this place( see second link)

    Again any questions, ask away.

I stayed in the KENSINGTON CLOSE hotel last year and was happy with it. Mind you the room was a bit small but was not an issue and more importantly spotless..food was good in the hotel

The tube was about 200yds from hotel door so esy to get anywhere from there.
