NCT question.

The NCT on my car is due sometime around march this year.
I wanna know how early can I get the NCT on my car done and say if I get the NCT on my car done earlier than its due date and the car fails on the NCT check, would the NCT on the car be void then and will I be able to drive it?

I wanna know this, as many of you might know, my car is in a fairly sorry condition. Didn't start it for about a month (since the snow) and now the engine is completely dead, not the faintest sign of any ignition or anything!
Anyway, so I'm not very sure if my car will pass the NCT cleanly and this is why I wanna know if its possible I can get the NCT check done earlier than the NCT is due so that I can have time to get the repairs and such to make sure I don't end up with a car with no NCT.

    Cheers.

If it fails on certain stuff they mark on the failure report that the car shouldn't be driven on the road :) ie if you have terrible brakes etc. A normal fail will not prevent you driving it under your old cert.

You can do it 3 months early.

No problem booking it now, just go to nct.ie and book a time slot that suits you.
For €50 its a cheap way to see whats wrong with your car.
They will give a printout of whats wrong and hand it to your mechanic.
    Re test will cost €28.50

I'ld say breaks and all are grand.
What I'm worried about is emissions and some bushes might be worn out...

I'ld say I'll book it now anyway and might look into getting the NCT done sometime over the next couple of months. As CarrickMcJoe said its also a good way of finding out what's wrong with the car and getting it fixed properly. I don't trust mechanics anymore! They either say "she's all grand!" or they give an endless list of things to do...

i always knew you could book 3 months early, but just now i went to the NCTS site and put in the details of my GF's E90, registered on 28th June 2007, and its giving me the option to book.

if i book now and pass, will i get the 2 years plus the time from now to June?

^Actually that's another question I had in mind.
Although mine being a 99 model and due to the new law, I'll have to get the NCT on it every year anyway.

I'ld love to get rid of it and buy something nicer this summer or maybe next summer atleast. Now that in a couple of months I'll no longer be a first time driver, I'll be able to properly shop around and get quotes from companies who wouldn't quote me before!

Not sure on the exact date but the 1 year test is not coming in for cars over 10 years till june/july 2011. If you test it in march for example you should get a 2year test.

    Oh, that's good!!
If I manage to get NCT for 2 years then I can keep it till next summer when I'll have a bit more cash on me to buy a better car and the NCT should help getting rid of the Puma as well.

Thats the way I see it too. Any 10 year or older car NCT'd before June will get a two year cert.
