I'm writing out the bibliography part of my essay , on one of the journal papers I cited, it has about 12 authors... do I need to write in all their names?

Generally, if there are more than 5 authors, you would write the first name followed by et al. Just implies that there are others.

In APA style, you put the first six authors, an ellipsis (...), and the last author.

I had to do this last month, here's an example:

Anton, R., O'Malley, S., Ciraulo, D., Cisler, R., Couper, D., Donovan, D., ... Zweben, A. (2006). Combined pharmacotherapies and behavioral interventions for alcohol dependence – The COMBINE study: A randomized controlled trial. Journal of the American Medical Association, 295(17), 2003-2017.

In the actual text, you can use Anton et al., of course, but the bibliography rules are different.

Anyone who needs to do a lot of essays or papers should get to know Endnote it really is worth the effort.

I am amazed at the number of people who dont know about it - it should be one of the first things new students are told about.

The library regularly run courses on it and it is well worth taking the time to do one - usually lasts about two hours.

Another tip is that if you use google scholar you can set it up to export the references into Endnote - look at the scholar preferences.

Another point apparently the latest version of Endnote wont work yet with 64 bit versions of Word 2010. Also there are plenty of videos about Endnote on youtube.

Because of demand, Endnote classes are for postgraduates only.

We recommend that undergraduates use EndnoteWeb, which - while it doesn't have all the bells and whistles that Endnote has - is free and is easier to use.
