A work mate of mine who is from Japan but living and working in Ireland for over 5 years is having problems getting a reasonable car insurance quote.
The car is a 01 Daihatsu Naked (never sold in Ireland) 659cc, value 3k?? She brought the car with her when she moved from Japan, it's not modified or turbo/super charged, she has 5 years NCB and she is over 35 years old.
At the moment she is with Quinn and her renewal is 520 euros Comprehensive, however when she tries to shop around for a more competitive quote all the companies(so far) won't quote her cause it's a Japanesse import.
Can anyone explain why this is? and can anyone suggest a company that would give a more competitive quote?

    Thanks

I would suspect it's more to do with the non-EU driving licence......

I think maybe I remember reading they don't have immobilizers fitted as standard?

    I've a Toyota Clavia (Yaris)
Insured with Aviva, only reference to imports is

Spare parts clause for Japanese or
    Far-Eastern imports

For each event where replacement parts
are needed to repair the car and the
parts are not available or out of stock
    from the manufacturers’ European
representatives or agents, you must pay
the cost of the replacement over the
price shown in the latest maker’s price
    list.

You can look up policy here

Edit: You can also look at Assumptions here, no mention of Imports

She has a full Irish driving licence, the car has passed the NCT, the car does not have an alarm or immobiliser, but having said that, neither does mine, and I don't have a problem getting quotes.
