To put it bluntly, I downloaded porn on my brother's laptop. The problem is it's an ubunto, going on Linux or some **** like that. I don't really know. I'm not completely incompetent, all I want to do is delete it.

    How do I do that?

Whatever web browser it is google how to delete the history/form search. If you can find the file then surely there must be an option to simply delete the file?

it probably downloaded to /home/username/Downloads. If you click on the ubuntu icon in the top corner and go to places you should see the Downloads folder.

otherwise its probably on the desktop but I'm assuming you would have seen it there

    ....was it any good? :D

Bit more info might help. What web browser is on it? Was it just the one video file? Did you actually select save file or just open it directly?

I think this has to be one of the weirdest requests I think I ever read here. :)

The usual browser with ubuntu is firefox assuming this is the one you used...

If you don't know where the downloaded file was saved, go to tools->downloads (or press CTRL-SHIFT-Y - when in the browser). This will bring up the download dialog. Highlight the file you downloaded and right-Click to bring up a context menu. Select "Open Containing Folder" this will open a file browser in the directory the file was stored in. Select the file and press DELETE. Don't forget to empty the trash (usually in bottom right).
Also click Clear List button on the Downloads popup window.

If the file in in the cache or history of the browser go to Tools=>Clear Recent History. Just delete everything.

If you wanted your internet browsing to remain private after this select use the Tools->Start Private browsing option ... then when done you'd select Stop private browsing from the same menu.

If that isn't enough you'll need to provide more details about what is not being deleted!

If this is genuine just use either the terminal or the GUI to go to /home/username/Downloads then delete the files. Then go to trash and delete them from their. Then come out to your brother ... better he finds out from you then his web history and downloads.

If this is true, it is kinda of funny.

If you can't find the file, but know part of it's filename, try search for it.

    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FindingFiles

If you don't know any of the file name. There may be options to search by dates. So you could put a created date range in to a search, and maybe the files extension (usually wildcards like *.avi).

    Good luck OP!

In Firefox, go to Tools>Options (Of in Firefox 4, Firefox (top left)>Preferences.

The go to the general tab, and it will tell you where downloads are saved, go to that folder and delete it...

Or just pour a pint of water on it while its on, both will work...!!
