    Morning all,

Im not sure if this is the right place but I couldnt find a pharmacy forum.

Anyway, I left my medication in the hotel in Portlaoise when i was staying there (over night) for business. Now Im up here in Wicklow on business again and my doctor had told me it would be dangereous to stop taking the Lezapro and Zanax abruptly Im already a bit jumpy and didnt sleep too much).

I wont get to see my own GP or pharmist until next Wednesday at the earliest as im around the place for work and my GP is on holidays anyway.

My question is, do pharmists have a nationwide network that would show that I had recieved this medication before and on that basis could he give me some to tide me over until next Wed or Thurs? I mean i have seen them tapping away on a computer before dispensing the meds.

I have no medical card and I dont have the tie to go into a local doctor asking for these meds.

Sorry for the long question but i suppose it covers any of the questions I would be enivitably asked subsequently here on Boards.:o

    Thanks in advance.

    K.

    Hi Caoimhin,

I'm afraid there is no network in community pharmacies that would allow them to check your medication history if you had not gotten anything dispensed there before.

If you do not have your prescription or empty boxes/bags of the medicines you take with you, it may be difficult for a nearby pharmacy to give you some to tide you over as they will not have any way to verify what you are on, what strength, how often etc. Perhaps your own GP could contact a local pharmacy and request that they supply some to you.

Unfortunately i left the box of the meds in my wash bag in the bathroom of the hotel and as i said, my GP is on holidays.

I wonder would my own pharmacy hold a copy of the last prescription on file or are they sent back to the GP? Maybe I could ask them to call my local pharmacy and they could fax the original prescription on to the one here in town?

Your own pharmacy should have your full history on computer. Go into a local pharmacy, explain what has happen and give them details of your pharmacy you normally go to. The pharmacy here can then clarify things with your pharmacy and something may be sorted out. If not you may need to go to doc

Ah sorry, missed where you said your GP is away. Your own pharmacy could have your last prescription if it was finished, worth a try to get on to them and see could they fax it over.

Thanks lads, ill get this pharmacy to ring my local one and maybe they will give me enough until my own Doc is back.

Jaysys, they say that these anti-depressants are'nt addictive, but im here shivering and shaking leaf!!!

Cheers lads, I got this pharmacy to call my own place and they sorted me out with enough to keep me right until i get home next week.

On another poit, although the Lexapro does indeed work, i was shocked atthe way i felt when i stopped taking them suddenly, surely this is a form of addiction?

Oh! And please keep your high and mighty opinions to yourself, Mrs ? (you know who you are).

Def, you doc will have to 'ween' you off those pills when/if the time comes.

It would be worth discussing with your GP exactly what you could expect if you did stop/were late / had an upset stomach, taking them so you would recognise the symptoms.
