Selling Online, Legal Requirements Regarding Invoices

    Hi Guys,

Supposing I want to keep costs down when selling online, do I have to provide people with a paper invoice for their order when I send goods out to them or can I just email them an invoice with VAT breakdown etc.

I've certainly received goods before without a paper invoice so I assume it's legal to do so, thought I'd check here and see if anyone knew the situation.

    Thanks in advance...

Yes its fine to email the invoice and then not send a paper invoice, but be warned if you do not provide them with an invoice (via email - as in the mail severs dont send it) they ascertain a different set of rights.

    Thanks Ronan,

What kind of rights are they? Sounds Scary:)

For example the right to return period is extended to 90 days. You really would want to become intimately familiar with the distant selling act before you start. So many companies in Ireland ignore it, yes even the big ones - untill it eventually bites them on the ass. In my opinion its easier just to do it right the first time and avoid the hassle.
