The female section where you insert the laptop charger in the back of the laptop seems a bit loose, is this an easy fix or is my laptop on the way out? Can I do it myself with minimal computer fixing knowledge or do I have to bring it to a repair shop? Thanks.

What make/model is it? How old?

Its an acer aspire 5920, 3 years old I think. The laptop will charge if the charger is in certain positions, but if it moves then it stops charging.

You don't think stripping a laptop down to board level and soldering on the dc jack is not a big job? I've done this many times, it's a time intensive job and you have to know what you're doing to attempt this.

it may be time intensive but is is straight forward if u do know what your doing .there are a lot bigger as in complicated problems . also check your power supply is correct as you may be using the wrong connection if it isnt the original charger

No the power supply is ok its the same as the original charger, I won't be capable of taking the laptop apart though, will look into getting repairs done this week so. Thanks.

Have you tested it with a multimeter?

i'm having a similar problem with a sony vaio laptop. the jack going into the comp is totally broken and the guy in the sony centre said it needs to be replaced. i've been onto 3 repair places in dublin and been quoted 110, 120 and 150.

anyone know of any one man operations who may do it for less around the dublin area or midlands?
