Got an old hp that i'm in no mood to try to fix.
Basically it's an overheating/shutting down issue (well documented on the net) and i'm finished with it.
What are my options with this.
Was thinking of just recycling it, but is selling it for parts an option?

If not, what parts are worth salvaging?
Presumably i can make use of the HDD and memory?

    Thanks.

Generally an overheat/shutting down issue is relatively easy to fix, I do a few each month - clear out all lint from the heatsinks and fans, take the heatsink off the processor and put on some high quality thermal paste. Usually works a treat.

You'd probably be able to sell it for parts though no doubt, someone'll need the screen, invertor, keyboard, RAM, HD (But wipe it thoroughly first with software that fills the HD with random bits), even the Power Supply someone'll be stuck for. Sometimes even if the case is in good condition, someone'll want it.

    How old are we talking/model?

    Done, done and done. :p
Brought it in for repair a good while ago and they did all this (even replace the motherboard-still gave problems and currently doesn't boot up for more than a few seconds).
Check out this monster thread here
This machine becomes a real heartbreaking POS after 2.5-3 years.

I'll keep the HDD and memory (probably) as i say.
Are there places you can sell it for parts?

About 4-5 years now, hp dv1000 series.

Adverts.ie - boards sister site - would be a great place to advertise the parts, or even the entire laptop as is to begin with.

    .

    Dunno tbh.
As i say, IMHO motherboard (or some part of it- heat sensor etc) may well be gone- really dunno what the problem is with it but i'm done fixing it (perpetual rebooting- see the link to the problem thread above).
That's essentially the problem with it- maybe it's fixable i dunno.

Keeping the HDD and 1 gb memory (most likely) myself.
Otherwise it's reasonable (screen, keyboard, power supply, dvd drive all ok, barely noticeable crack on casing around left edge).
    Otherwise a nice looking laptop.

I usually used it with the power supply so can't give a definite answer on that.
